Stowood Scientific Instruments Ltd (Stowood), established in 1992, is a partnership of bioengineering, hardware and software specialists collaborating in developments for the sleep laboratory. The company is privately owned, independent and technically orientated, with a wealth of experience of hospitals and medical equipment.

Technical Manager:

Lyn Davies is a bioengineering PhD with more than 30 years of experience in the NHS at Nottingham's University, and Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospitals, and in industry. Whilst working as Research and Technical Manager at Oxford Medical between 1984 and 1992, he developed an interest in sleep. In August 1992 he established Stowood, initially to develop Visi-Lab as a more appropriate alternative to full polysomnography for sleep apnoea/PLMS screening. He remains as technical manager of Stowood interested in developing what is sensible rather than that which is dictated by reimbursement rules.

Software Manager:

Paul Gladding is a software specialist with more than a decade's indepth knowledge of C++, and Windows programming in medicine, with a major focus on developing 'user friendly' software. DownLoad was his solution to making oximetry trend data accessible to the normal user. He has oodles of experience and responsibility for interfacing software to many different manufacturers' equipment.

Hardware Development Manager:

Hugh Goodwin is a hardware specialist, with more than 25 years experience in medical instrumentation design at Rigel, Oxford Medical and Stowood. He is responsible for the development of the OSLER-2 test as well as designing virtually all our other hardware.
