The Need for Change.....

Over the past fifteen years there has been a definitive change in sleep technology and monitoring. The initial belief was that it was absolutely necessary to use observed polysomnography including EEG and sleep stage analysis even for the diagnosis of relatively simple sleep problems such as sleep apnoea syndrome. The research of Professors John Stradling in Oxford and Neil Douglas in Edinburgh proved the utility of using simpler equipment, which in essence meant sleep diagnosis became available to a far greater number of people.

Stowood's Role

Our contribution by the introduction of the Visi-Lab system to simplify the diagnostic process has been fundamental in making sleep diagnostic equipment and software available in the DGH (district general hospital). This also allowed the more recent development of sleep studies in the patient's home - increasing the possibilities and progress in sleep monitoring.

Oximetry Monitoring

Stowood also introduced a WindowsTM package for downloading data from oximeters which has evolved into Download 2001. Our software is in use in thousands of hospitals worldwide.
